FAQ

What is a doula?

A doula is a non-clinical care provider who offers emotional, physical, spiritual, and informational support during life's transitions including pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and death.

What's the difference between a birth doula and a midwife?

A midwife is a primary care provider specializing in birth and postpartum health. They do medical procedures, deliver babies, and give health advice.

A doula is a non-medical support person. They do not provide medical advice, perform medical procedures, or deliver babies.

How much do doula services cost?

Services vary in price based on the type of support you need, as well as how long you would like the support to be. See our Services page for more information.

Payment plans are available upon request.

How does your on-call period work?

The on-call period, offered for all birth packages, is period of 24/7 support in anticipation of labour. The on-call period begins 2 weeks (14 calender days) prior to the due date, until 2 weeks post-due date OR up to two hours post-delivery.

Can I hire a doula for a non-traditional birth?

Of course! Doulas support hospital births, home births, C-sections, water-births, surrogate pregnancies, and beyond. However, Metamorphosis Doula Care does not attend planned unassisted births (aka "freebirths").
